Painting the Wild: Rivers and Wildlife on Canvas

Join Valeree Catangay and Jennifer Wang for a fun, creative evening inspired by the spirit of summer escapes.

In this beginner-friendly gouache painting workshop, you’ll explore the serene beauty of river landscapes — from sunlit waters and smooth stone riverbeds to lush greenery and the wildlife that flourishes along the banks. Guided by artists Valeree and Jennifer, you’ll learn how to compose a vibrant scene, mix colors, and paint natural elements that reflect the joy and calm of a riverside summer day.

This workshop offers a first glimpse into the inspiration behind our upcoming River Daze campaign — a celebration of nature’s rhythms and the simple pleasure of getting away.

Jennifer Wang (she/her) is a plein air painter, cartoonist, and naturalist. Valeree Catangay (she/her) is an illustrator, painter, and climate strategist. Together, they combine their love for art and nature through plein air painting across California’s parks and wildlands.

Art supplies, light bites, and refreshments will be provided. A portion of the proceeds will benefit West Virginia Rivers Coalition to support conservation efforts.
